| 2/5/2010 Exorcise Demons… Drink spirits... |
|
In case you’re wondering which thing the Gristle Gals are most excited about right now, it’s the summer. We are so looking forward to taking our fancy new cd on the road, out west to California and back again to Southern Colorado. Reminds me of the Carter Family trucking along the mountain roads with Maybelle at the helm back when you had to advertise powder milk to play music. I envision something like Gristle Gals Medicine show: Exorcise Demons…. Drink Spirits. Brought to you by… guess what. So, yes, we are nearing completion of said fancy new cd – I’m sad to part with such a meaningful experience but dying to hear what you all think of it. We brought in the big guns for the final percussion tracks: Nicki and Gretchen, aka The Well Oiled Machine, on tambourine and shaker; Mandi on kick drum; and, Ashley driving the soap board. I was impressed at the end of that day. Impressed and bruised. We have a few CD release festivities in the making so check back in for details. It’s hard to not self obsess when blogging about one’s self but I’d actually like to take a minute to pay tribute to some of our fine companions. We’re really enjoying the circuit of bands we’ve been sharing the stage with these days- the next few months are full of great double bills. I’ve decided the one time it’s ok to obsess over other men who aren’t our boyfriend is if they’re Diego’s Umbrella. Sorry Mark, but there’s no shame in that. Who wouldn’t be charmed by the wacky antics of a bunch of great musicians in bull fighting attire? They’ve got it all they’ve got us playing with them in Denver in March and later in the summer in their hometown, San Francisco…. Details to come, stay tuned. Check out their MTV Brazil video too. We join a fellow Denver based band, Oakhurst, next week- Feb 12th for their first annual Make a Wish Foundation. We’re looking forward to hearing their interpretation of traditional bluegrass and how they take the trad instrumentation, similar to ours, into a newer edgier place. The drums are seemingly hard to pull off in this type of scenario but they end up being an integral part of the groove with this high energy ensemble. I already love the mando but we shan’t judge a band by their myspace, come out to Cervantes Friday. We’ll be the band who plays first in the polka dots. I’ll wait until next time to tell you about Widow’s Bain and Asylum Street Spankers and more about our CD release! And Festivals- the THC festival in Alma, who knows what else…. As always, Love, The Gristle Gals |
